Is boxing a good idea to take up as a workout?


Im interested in starting boxing classes as a workout routine, but im not sure if it will get me in shape, what does it do for you as well?And its not for fighting just more like selfdefense and as a workout routine.

Boxing is a great workout i go to a boxing gym from time to time and is one of the best workouts. Your consantly moving and ducking so it also helps you with your feflexes and balance. Plus if you train for boxing youll be doing alot of cardio like jumprope running and hitting the speed bag. Take it up maybe you can come to my gym and i'll spar with you and ill knock you out, lol just kidding i would take it easy on you.

I was interested in trying it out for, getting in shape, hobby and selfdefense if the time comes.

1. So what type of workouts do you do?

2. How long does it take to get atleast halfway decent at it, so you wont have to worry about somebody trying to attack you?

3. Will it help me loose body fat on my chest and stomach, will it keep me toned, or looking physically fit ( of course with the proper diet ) or will I be tomeless?

4. Do they get you strong, like endurance strong or lift heaveir strong?

1) Conditioning drills, technique drills.

2) That depends on you, how fast you learn, how hard you train, and if you train for a combat sport, you ALWAYS have to worry about somebody attacking you.

3) If you combine it with the right dieting, yes.

I need a workout program designed for kettlebells. Mine are 45lbs and I have a lot of space and enough time to do anything you can send my way. Total body stuff is what I'm going for here.

While you're waiting for someone to post a more specific contact information regarding your search. If you're serious enough I suggest the following step for you to take.

First thing you have to do is check your local yellow pages or phone book, look for the all the available schools your area has to offer.

If you're not in the area yet, call someone you know in the local area to scan, mail or list the martial arts section on the yellow page and have them sent to you.

The reason I always suggest to look in the phone book first is due to the fact you're pretty much searching for a school in your local area. You may even find one a few blocks down from you. Using the phone book as your first step will make your search faster and easier because all the information such address and phone number are available for you right there.

Secondly, if you are not having any success with this type search, After all the vigorous research on styles and decided on a particular style of martial arts. Try contacting an organization of that particular style on the internet and ask if they can refer schools or instructors available in your local area.

Please note that there are good number of good instructors that do not advertise or teach for commercial purpose thus you won't see them advertise anywhere. They are mostly located in private gyms or community centers. Just them a call and even if they don't have a program ask to see who they can refer you to.

One last thing, I don't mean to sound abrasive, but If the above suggestion is too much work for you, then the probability of you being serious in joining a martial arts school is less than zero. I am sorry to say this but, there's plenty of answerer's here that wants to sincerely help you in your quest, but you have to do your part.

how can I get my body toned and increase its strength but not getting huge?


I am 14 years old, and I started to workout almost a month ago. I left weights, my main muscle that I train are my arms muscles and my chest, I also work other but not a lot. I have noticed that after a month now, I am getting big, my chest is getting wide. How can I stop that? all I want is just to get toned, I can't bulk up because I am a taekwondo player and my skinny shape is very important, I just need to tone and strength. Help please?
