After attaining widespread popularity in the West over the past three decades, the Korean martial arts discipline Taekwondo has become as known for self-protection as it is for aerobic exercise. The home release Taekwondo Defense for Kids is grounded firmly in the belief that no age bracket is too young to master this discipline -- and that the practice is in fact particularly desirable for children, for those viewers will be most susceptible to external threats from predators and the like. The program teaches young viewers the rapid-fire kicks and punches associated with the sport, specifically as they apply to safety and self-protection. The video is not geared to impart full Taekwondo mastery, but more useful in helping to teach kids a few simple, basic moves that will make them less vulnerable on the streets. ~ Nathan Southern, Rovi

Taekwondo Tkd Head If 60% of TaeKwonDo school is Mcdojang, how do we clean them up, by?
challenging each dojang's average student to a fight? By writing anonymously to the head of TKD organization and highlighting to them that almost all TKD schools are money making scheme?
How do you approach the problem to clean up the TKD ranks of posers!???
My best bet for me is to do a friendly challenge to someone that would say they are black belt do that full contact sparring!
For you to challange the McDojangs (or their students) out there, what purpose would that serve? You would be showing disgrace to the martial art you belong to, and to the school you belong to. No self-respecting martial artist would ever do that.
And why would you choose the "average" student? Are you afraid the grandmaster or the top students? Who gets to choose the "average" student?
You are clearly singling out Taekwondo, but you are forgetting that every martial art is having problems with such schools.
And where did you get 60% from, anyway? The only possible way for you to know is to have surveyed and/or surveilled each and every dojang out there.
And what is your criteria for McDojang? There is no standard definition, and if any one school possessed all that most people agreed makes up a MD, that school either wouldn't last long or wouldn't have "average" students.
And what would the rules be for your friendly challange? Ring rules or street rules? If street rules, what criteria would you use to define a winner? Taekwondo rules? Or each uses the martial art of their expertise?
How many dojangs would you visit and make the challange before you decided things are cleaned up? You really think that is your best bet? To physically challange 60% of the 100,000 martial arts schools in this country alone? Assuming you could cover 2 dojangs a day, non-stop, that would take you 82 years. Assuming you are still in your early teens, you would get to the last dojang at past your expected life expectancy, and well past the prime fighting time of even the best martial artists. And that's only the Taekwondo schools. You'd have to work on Karate, and MMA, and so on.
You did ask a valid question, though: "How to clean it up"
And there is an answer, but we have seen, time and again, that it will not work. There must be an independent grading association - like the SAT scores that highschoolers take. This grading would define requirements, and as you test, you are graded according to the requirements in this system.
To be fair, you test every year, or two years, and re-apply. You may do well one year, but others - not so good. In this manner, children will be held back, and potentially so will older adults.
This concept isn't new. In the computer field, I am certified as MCSD - Microsoft Certified Solutions Developer. I can't claim that status all the time. As the years go by and requirements are tweaked, I must re-test to re-qualify, or I lost my certification. If I don't re-up, I have to start all over again at the bottom. This incentive to maintain my certification necessarily requires that I continue studying and improving my skillsets.
The same should be true for martial arts who implement a grading system of sorts. Your competency is graded against an independent criteria, and you must continually work to maintain it. It's not like once you get your rank, you are at least that rank for ever. No - you can lose it if you don't maintain it.

Japanese Tabi What does a Japanese groom wear at his wedding?
I am American, and my #1 girl is from Japan. If we married, I've seen brides' clothing: white kimono and proper accessories topped with a uchikake robe that may be solid white or have various patterns on a background of white, gold, orange or red. Miyuki says the colors and things shown symbolize various things, e.g. white=purity, red=happiness, cranes & pines=longevity, etc. Her surname Komatsu means "Small Pine", so I'll probably get her a uchikake with pines. I could ask her about my clothing, but I want to surprise her. I have kimono in black, grey and brown and matching haoris. I have several hakama, plain and striped. My tabi are blue, black and white. My zori have black straps. I also have three antique samurai kamishimo and hakama. Do you think that any of my japanese clothing is proper to wear to a Japanese wedding, or should I buy more. Perhaps Miyuki can judge the best answers to this question. Silly answers result in deleted questions.

In Japanese what's the difference between toki, jikan, and tabi?
I listen to a lot of Japanese music and take Japanese classes and I know that all three words (jikan, toki, and tabi) mean "time". But in what situation do I use which one? Are there any other ways to say "time" that I should be aware of?
Toki is when, jikan is time, tabi is timeS.
Kodomo no toki = when I was a child
Jikan ga nai = I don't have the time
Mitabi (or sando) yakusoku o yaburimashita = He broke his promise 3 times
