This compilation is a good one-disc introduction to Lightnin' Hopkins' work. For one, it's still in print and relatively easy to find. After being rediscovered during the '60s folk revival, Legacy issued this best-of collection in the late '60s, and the emphasis is on acoustic country blues. It's well nigh impossible to encompass a career as wide as that of Lightnin' Hopkins in a single-disc compilation, but Hopkins' engaging personality, strong vocals, idiosyncratic rhythmic sense, and humor do come across on tunes like "Big Black Cadillac Blues." Also documented are sessions with Brownie McGhee, Sonny Terry, and Big Joe Williams. While maybe not the tightest collaborations, they're loose, chummy, and inviting. If you're looking to get a strong flavor of his trademark Texas country blues without delving too deeply into Hopkins' back catalog, this compilation, arbitrary as it is, will serve well. ~ Jim Esch

Queen Latifah, as far as the public is concerned, has been single since recording her first hit 20 years ago and, as the New Jersey-born actress and singer continues to climb the ladder to fame and fortune, many men are coming out of the woodwork trying to land a date with the big, black, beautiful woman.
Born Dana Owens in Newark, New Jersey on March 18, 1970, she later adopted the name Queen Latifah as she charged into the limelight as a talented young singer and rapper at the age of 18. “I just can’t resist those big, beautiful curves,” said John Bushey of Indianapolis, Indiana. “I’ve been a Latifah fan since her first LP debut ‘All Hail The Queen.’ I’ve seen all her movies. She’s funny, outgoing and, above all, beautiful. Some say she’s fat. Well, I say fat is beautiful.”
Many of the would-be-male-suitors ignore allegations that the long-time single Latifah is possibly a lesbian. Many, including Latifah herself, say she just hasn’t met the right person yet. Black dye will stain your logo. In the future, remember to use cold water. You cannot replace the color of your shirt, unless you don't mind ruining the logo.
