Knife Emerson Combat
What is the most practical and applicable martial art for modern day self-defense?
I don't care about it being "fancy", I don't care about meditation, or character development, I just want to be better able to defend myself.
Right now I was thinking of looking into Defendo(Bill Underwood's martial art that spun off of Combato, not the newer, unrelated one) or Emerson Combat Systems. If anyone more familiar with martial arts has any suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated.
I am looking for something with emphasis on unarmed self-defense with the goal of knocking an aggressor(or aggressors) unconscious, gun and knife disarms, and improvised weapons.
Look, I'm just going to say it like it really is. If you are looking for the most practical art, then you are going to be looking for the rest of your life. There is no most practical art. Martial arts in themselves are lifeless. It's all dependant on the martial artists and how they apply their techniques.
The answer is inside YOU already. Look there to find what you are looking for. Include all ranges of combat into your own unique martial art and make sure the techniques are done practically, and then you will have nothing to worry about.
You can take different arts and learn the techniques as you go along. If you come across any that are useless, then just digard them or modify them. You do this until you have enough strategies to build a foundation. Then from this foundation, you can build upon it by trying different techniqes at random, because combat is always changing, so you have to keep adapting to it.
By going this route, you will more than likely be able to find what you are looking for rather than following a fixed set of patterns that were originally tailored for the founder of the art.

Emerson Karambit Knife ... Combat or Super?
Ernest Emerson is a Martial artist and that is what he started off doing
Emerson Knives is a very interesting story. The founder Ernest R. Emerson. Ernest Emerson is a Martial artist and that is what he started off doing. He was born in Northern Wisconsin. Then he moved to southern California with the idea off working with his Martial arts. I interesting side note. Ernest Emerson has made his own martial arts. It is called Emerson Combat Systems and is taught to law enforcement agency’s and military units, as well as civilians.
Where Emerson interest in knives comes from a gift he received. A Barlow knife when he was a young child, and as we all know later started making them. Emerson made his first knife more out of necessity then for fanatical gain. He was working on his martial art and need a Balisong knife and with his salary could not afford one so he took a shot at making his own. When he went back to his class with his new knife every one was very imprested so they asked if he would make them all one, and he did just for the price of parts. Later he realized that he was on to something at started charging $50 each. Emerson made such good knives that his reputation started to grow. Emerson started to branch out and started making fixed-blade knives part time as he also worked with his martial arts training.
Then Later Emerson went to a gun show and saw a Michael Walker folding knife a thought is great design. After this Emerson chose to make pocket knives from then on out. He contacted walker about using the Walker Linerlock on his own pocket knives and after that there was no looking back. Emerson quickly became a big name in the pocket knives world. Emerson first pocket knives where more on the decorative side, but now he make more practical pocket knives that our military and SEALs teams use and he even made pocket knives for NASA. Emerson knives a very popular with collectors as well. Emerson’s first knives logo feature a Bowie knife and it very rear to find, and as a result very popular with collectors.
Emerson Knives Inc is located in Torrance, California. It has a very small staff, but make some of the best tactical on the market to day. Also Emerson has worked with many other knife manufactures even his competition like Gerber Knives. Emerson is always trying to find ways to make pocket knives better A great gift if you know someone that is going to join the military.
About the Author
Hello my name is James Huff and I started a online store called pocketknivesdepot.com I started this for two reasons I wanted to offer great quality knives at low prices. I also wanted to gain financial independence. To open your own store is challenging but well worth the work. If I can do it any one can. Thank you.
