Calling All Old School Sox Fans: Is it Time for a Civil War in Red Sox Nation?
Who else has had it with the moron bandwagon jumpers? I almost (almost) liked it better when the Sox were still cursed. At least back then you knew that if you ran into somebody with a B on their cap, you were pretty likely to have an intelligent, informed baseball conversation with them. It's too bad we don't have a policy like in the Hell's Angels Motorcycle Club, where if true, old school members run into some posers, wearing a patch, they'll make them take it off on the spot.
I am particularly disgusted with the people who defend Jason Varitek as a selection for the all-star game. Since I am not a bandwagon jumper, I have actually followed Tek's career from the get go, since we fleeced Seattle for him and Lowe. He is one of my favorite all-time players. But this year he is clearly no all-star. And back in the day, we old-school Sox fans did not insist our players deserved to be all-stars when they were hitting less than their weight.
Ah, for the good old days!

And you are entirely correct about Varitek. One of the great steals of all time! Of course, we also traded Sparky Lyle to the lousy Yanks for a player never heard from again, Danny Kater. In those days we would have been embarrassed by an AllStar selection which was unworthy. Tek is a brilliant catcher, best in decades, but he should take a pass on this one.
